Since I’ve moved to Australia, I haven’t really maintained a strong night life due to my busy schedule of school and work. I went out from time to time if there were birthday parties or events, but I am definitely not a every night of the weekend, every week kind of girl (like my ASU days). Now that I have recently graduated from UQ and have a bit more free time on my hands, I have been trying to make an effort to go out more often. I worked in nightlife and on top of that had my fair share of night time activities during my time at ASU so now I don’t particularly love going out unless it’s with some of my amazing friends and/or partner – and of course the place has to be worth getting ready for (Food is always an awesome way to encourage me to get ready).

When getting ready, I sometimes drink wine (or I love a good cider) – but more importantly than that I have to be comfortable and relaxed. I hate being rushed so even if it takes me 30 minutes to get ready if it’s going to be a big night and I need to look on point, I will still allow myself an hour just so I can take my time and go at my own pace. Another ESSENTIAL factor of getting ready and really just my life in general is having candles burning. Since I was young, I have always had candles in the house and it really just settles any anxiety for me and makes any space I am in feel like home. When I am getting ready it’s one of the only few moments I have in my life that I can truly enjoy being a woman and have the opportunity to reflect on myself – and I mean not just in the mirror. Being a not so girly-girl these moment are even less frequent for me. I might say I hate getting ready sometimes, cause I definitely do, but by the end of hanging around my room with my dog and getting ready with some wine and some dim candles – I always feel so much more relaxed and ready for what ever the night holds.

One of the few things that I truly do despise about getting ready is the process of washing my hair and then having to do my hair (blow dry, straighten, etc) before I get ready. I RARELY DO THIS. I will usually plan out when I am going to wash my hair – whether thats in the morning or the night before, I will do anything to avoid the blow dryer and then putting on make up (especially in the summer – no bueno). This breaks the first rule of getting ready for me – which is being comfortable. And trust me, I get so easily hot that the second I turn on the blowdryer, I would feel like I have been immediately transported to Death Valley.  So like every other night, tonight I washed my hair in the morning and then let it air dry the whole day. I usually rinse off with an ugly hair net or just my hair up before I start getting ready and then put on lotion. Again referencing back to the fact that I easily reach a heightened body heat of 105 degrees with no effort, I tend to get ready either naked or in underwear. For the sake of all my readers eyes I decided to throw on some pieces of clothing to increase the modesty of this post.

When going out the goal of my make up is to look fresh faced but also almost like my skin is wet and dewy. For this effect I start by putting a primer all over my face. Then I mix a combination of Bobbi Brown liquid foundation, Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser and Mac Strobe Cream. The strobe cream isn’t tinted but it’s this amazing luminous lotion that adds a subtle highlighting and glowing effect to my foundation. I then cover up any blemishes I have with my MAC concealer stick. I apply either the same concealer or I have loved using my NARS luminous concealer under my eyes in a triangle, down the bridge of my nose and a tiny bit under my eyebrows. I apply a little bit of bronzer under my cheekbones and around my face to create a subtle contour effect (I never go full Kardashian) and then apply my MAC Blush Powder in Dame on the apples of my cheeks and brush on MAC Mineralize skin finish in Soft & Gentle on my cheekbones, bridge of my nose and under my eyebrows. I also love putting the mineralise skin finish on the inner corners of my eye.

Whenever I go out my eye makeup has to be either really minimal (as it is everyday), I usually only wear mascara OR I love to go a bit more dramatic in a rock n’ roll , french, I didn’t mean to look like this kind of way. Since tonight I was going to a cocktail party I wanted to go for a bit more of the amped up version of my eye make up. I first start by rubbing a mixture of light gold, pink and brown/gold eyeshadow on my eyes. I use all Bobbi Brown eye shadows. I then put MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil around the top of my eye and my water line and blend. I blend sporadically so it gets that “this just happened” look as well as a subtle “this might be my make up from last night”. The MAC eye pencil I have is AMAZING because it allows you to smudge it but it still stays on so well, even in the waterline! When I am blending the eyeliner on my watermark I try and blend it out toward the lower part of the eye so it really gets that smokey look also.

Since dying my hair a platinum blonde, brows are one of my most essential arts. I use my Hourglass Eyebrow pencil and then finish them with a gel to hold them in place and make them look really thick and blown out.

Right before I go out I spray on heaps of my Chloe perfume and of course deodorant – you never know how much of a sweat I am going to work up dancing the night away.

My dress tonight is a ribbed turtleneck dress by Acne Studios. It goes a little bit past my knees but really gives me a chic and sexy look. I love that something so subtle in its shape can really deliver a sexy understated look. When picking my outfits, if I am wearing something sexy, it either has to be easy or I have to pair it back with something that doesn’t have so much va-va-voom. I know, you wouldn’t believe it, but I am a modest girl (at times). I paired it with my Celine boots – because what doesn’t look good with a little bit of Celine (similar here). And Voilá! My outfit is sorted.

Now off to have a few bubbles and Vodka Sodas. Then subsequently ending the night eating pizza in my room with my boyfriend. But don’t all good nights end with eating pizza?

Maison Margiela & Vintage Levis 501

Vintage denim, LEVIS // Leather boots, MAISON MARGIELA // Turtleneck, ENZA COSTA // Western style belt, CATCHLOVE COLLECTIVE

When the big freeze comes along each year, I always set out on an epic quest for the perfect boot. Needless to say I have found it and then some with this little MAISON MARGIELA number. The shape – bordering on a modernised 60’s style, make this accessory a standout that will help me dress up my warmer clothing this winter and many more to come. Fuck the winter weather, I will be donning these until the end of the world and the zombie apocalypse subsequently knocks out mankind.

Anyways, besides the fact that I have in fact found the perfect boot, they look amazing with my newly found VINTAGE LEVIS 501. While vintage shopping in Melbourne I came across this pair of beautifully crafted denim. While they were like 6 sizes to big, I loved the wash and the style. I had them taken in, in way to many places than should be necessary when buying a pair of jeans and now they are just right!

So lesson for today – When you pair MAISON MARGIELA, VINTAGE DENIM, COWBOYESQUE ACCESSORIES and of course A TURTLENECK, the result is utter magic.

I leave you with the famous words of Kanye West:

“What’s that jacket….. MARGIELA”

After an amazing night at Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, I didn’t know how the next place on our vacation could possibly top it. I WAS DEAD WRONG. Upon arriving to Saffire in Freycinet, we were showed around the grounds of the hotel and immediately offered champagne (after 4 hours of driving with my parents and Adam in a car, I definitely need it). So this place basically had me at the champagne glasses. Our suites for the two nights were on another level of luxury. The views from our bedroom windows were unbelievable and more importantly they wined and dined us at all hours of the day anywhere we wanted. I could have probably been down in the bush and they still would have brought me freshly shucked oysters and a bottle of bubbles… definitely my kind of place. While the attire of the two nights was semi casual, I still wanted to rock my new favourite pair of high-waisted demi-flares from the Alexa Chung for AG Jeans collection. I have been feeling more in a bohemian/parisian mood lately and I thought that pairing these with my linen white Enza Costa shirt and pointed-toe Acne Studio boots would be an outfit perfect for my current style choice.

I am currently on a trip through Tasmania with my parents. When my parents told me that I was going to Tasmania, I had no expectations what so ever. Our first stop was Craddle Mountain. This place looks like the Australian version of Lord of the Rings. It is spectacular. It is so green and the forest looks like a mix between a rain forest and Big Sur. I can’t even describe to you how beautiful it is. Yesterday we went on a 3 hour hike to the look out point of one of the mountains, I almost died on the way up but it was so worth it once we all got there. Like any mountain area, it’s the perfect excuse to rock some denim on denim. I paired Adam’s Vintage Levi’s shirt (that’s now mine) with some of my Acne Pop Vintage jeans, a khaki t-shirt, and my favourite pistol boots.

Next up on our trip is Freycinet. My parents have told me how amazing the resort is that we are staying at, I am so excited to see it!

I recently scored these amazing loafers on sale from Satine in Venice Beach. The lovely employees at Satine were nice enough to ship them all the way out to me in Australia because I was missing their famous sale. I had such a fun time visiting Satine when I was in LA in December, I am already wanting to make another trip back to the U.S.A. Now back to the shoes, they are amazing. The softest leather and they make me feel like a super trendy Michael Jackson (who doesn’t want to look like Michael Jackson?). This outfit is sort of Michael Jackson circa Billy jean, and I mean that in the best possible way.

This look was completed with one of my favourite and the most comfortable T-shirts by Madewell. Just to give it a bit more of a vintage feel, I paired it back with some of my new Acne Studios pop jeans.

I also can’t stop carrying around my recent Christmas present, the sac du jour by Saint Laurent. My amazing boyfriend really spoiled me this time. It’s so perfect for work because I can almost fit anything in there. Laptop, creative pads, cameras, you name it!

What are you guys thinking of my bangs? Should I do the full chop and get a Freja Beha? Im contemplating it…..

Guess you’ll just have to wait and see!

New Age 70’s

Campaign

After a cold month of December in the U.S.A, I am now back in Australia and fighting the humidity and heat that wafts in the air of Queensland. I am not sure what has caused the mood but recently I have had a sudden want, no, NEED to wear flared jeans and sleeveless shirts. This combination to me is picturesque of California summers and for some reason reminds me of the palm trees lining the streets of LA. Maybe I’ll always be a California girl at heart, and no matter where I live or how long I live there I’ll always get the desire to move back to it’s sunny coast. When I was in the U.S. and having a cheeky browse at the amazing Neiman Marcus sale, I found these McGuire flared jeans with a raw hem and immediately fell in love, unfortunately, they were not on sale, as are all items I tend to drift toward in stores (I chalk it up to expensive taste, but I may just be unlucky). This new pair of denim, covers all the desires I have in life for a flare, and paired with my graphic MSGM t-shirt and ASOS heeled sandals, has me feeling like a 70’s rockstar about to slap on some rollerblades and boogie on down. I also picked up a new pair of sunglasses on my trip overseas. I was in search for a pair to replace my Celine Audrey sunglasses after Cornelius decided to eat them for breakfast (may they rest in peace) and I think these new Saint Laurent’s have filled the void that my Celine’s ultimately left in my life.

I have also paired this outfit with my unreal MOOI leather and cowhide envelope clutch. MOOI is an amazing brand that makes beautiful leather products. She also makes all her items with leather that is leftover from the food industry in Africa.  You can view her website and all her amazing purses here: MOOI

Wine Country in Winter: How to dress for Napa Valley

Canon Ebay Photos 6-2

This past month, I went on a very long vacation to California to catch up with my family and friends over the holiday season. One of the benefits of my life in California is my house in the Napa Valley. For those of you who have never been to the Napa Valley, it can be VERY cold during the winter, but when considering all the activities that are to be done in wine county, like, wine tasting, wine tasting, and more wine tasting, it is essential to have only the chicest outfit while pounding all that vino. While wine tasting can appear to be a very classy event, it can also be a long process. So its important to still look your best while also appealing to your comfort levels. Because it was so cold while I was there, I opted for a suede jacket (this is a similar version, not in suede, and on sale!) that is by far the warmest jacket I own. I paired it with my white equipment silk button-up (it’s on SALE!), blue jeans, and thigh high black boots (These are so comfortable), a chunky belt, a beanie, and my new Saint Laurent sunnies.

Regardless of what you wear, Napa Valley is always an amazing place to visit with friends and family. It has delicious food, amazing views, and the yummiest wine. The next time you visit Napa feel free to let me know and I will send you a list of my favourite places to visit!

Blazers and Bekkets

Cropped Blazer // Boyfriend Jeans // Bekket Sneakers // White T-shirt

I can’t really say what my style is exactly like, but recently I have wanted to wear nothing but sneakers and boyfriend jeans. This outfit is a funny twist on something your supposed to wear to work paired with something that I would love to wear everyday (ALL DAY). I think that the structured fit of a cropped blazer paired with a pair of baggy denim is a contrasting look that is super chic but also SO comfortable and easy. Who doesn’t want to be easy (get your mind out of the gutter)? I know that I have been completely MIA lately, and that is because I have recently taken a new job as the Marketing Manager of my favourite boutique in Brisbane, Calexico. Its going to be a lot of hard work managing both that as well as Katie Eve, but I am committed to making both brands as best as they can be. On a lighter note, I will be setting off on a month long vacay to my birth place, the US of A. Get ready for a live update of all the fun trips Im taking, and of course all the fun stuff that I am wearing! I get to go from summer weather back to winter (my favourite time of the year). Winter clothing is just so much fun to wear. There are so many options and so much layering to be done when its winter. Stay tuned for some fun updates! xx

Wide Leg Trousers and Denim

Rachel Zoe Pants (similar)  // Chambray Shirt (similar) // Tony Bianco Booties (similar) // Ray Ban Clubmaster

So Rachel Zoe can basically do not wrong, and these pants are an ode to that statement. They are not only high-waisted, but wide-legged, flared, and printed with an amazing black tuxedo strip down the side. I must say these are some of my favourite pants to wear if I want to show off a little bootilicious butt action. You could wear these pants with a crisp white button down and pumps for a chic work outfit. Or you could style them like I did here with a chambray shirt and booties for a possibly semi-formal day-time outfit. If your looking to take these pantalones out for a night on the town, throw on some strappy heeled sandals and a sexy black crop top… ready.. set… GO.

Paris + Stella McCartney

PARIS coverParis-2 Paris-3Paris-5 paris

Madewell T-shirt (similar) // Remain Leather Skirt (similar) // Stella McCartney Loafers

So this Madewell T-shirt is basically the most comfortable thing I have ever owned. I have found this to be true for all the T-shirts I buy from them, and recently I have bought a lot. I think I have 6 new Madewell T-shirts and they are becoming some what of an everyday outfit.

I am so excited that I got my hands on one of the most popular shoes of the year, Stella McCartney’s loafers! I really really love Stella, and to top it off she has some truly amazing environmentally friendly policies in her label. Now I am not going to sit here and tell you that I don’t wear leather and I don’t buy new clothes all the time in order to wear them once and have them sit in the back of my closet. I am probably a perfect example of why the textile industry creates so much pollution each year. But by buying Stella’s clothing, it makes you feel a little bit better when you sit and think about just how much damage this industry does. These shoes aren’t really leather but they still look amazing.

Although these shoes look amazing, definitely break them in a bit before you go out and wear them on a long day. They are really stiff and can rub your heels raw.

The look amazing with a leather skirt like this but they would also look great with some slouchy track trousers or wide leg pants.

I guess it all depends on your mood!!!
